Show Notes

In this gentle reflection, Carl explores how the small things we practice each day quietly shape the person we become. The Daily Rehearsal invites listeners to see their routines not as obligations, but as opportunities ... tiny, meaningful ways to align the inner world with the life they hope to create.

Through calm narration and ocean-inspired imagery, this episode reminds us that growth doesn’t happen all at once. It happens in moments ... in the breath before the day begins, in the choices we repeat, in the rituals that return us to ourselves.

A soft, grounding companion for anyone seeking consistency, intention, and a deeper connection to the rhythm of their own life.

“Happiness isn’t something you find. It’s something you practice.”

Episode Transcript

Welcome to Episode 7 of "A New Leaf," I am your host Carl Tambeau. Todays episode "The Daily Rehearsal" is from our book "The Attitude Shift." A Motion By the Ocean original. Every life is a kind of music. And every day...is a rehearsal. Not for perfection - but for presence. There's a small rhythm inside each of us. The way we wake up, the first words we think, the rituals that shape the hours ahead. Some people chase the extraordinary. But the older I get, the more I realize - peace lives in the ordinary things we do with care. That first breath before the day begins. The sound of the kettle boiling. The quiet thank-you whispered into the morning air. These are the daily rehearsals. They teach us who we are becoming. When I was younger, I believed change came from big gestures - the overnight decisions, the dramatic turning points. But real change, the kind that lasts ... it's built one quiet moment at a time. Gratitude written on a scrap of paper. A walk without your phone. A few deep breaths before replying to someone in anger. Small acts, repeated daily, become the chorus of your life. I call them "emotional rituals." They're not rules. They're reminders - ways of staying tuned to yourself. Because attitude, like a voice, drifts out of key when it's ignored. And every morning gives you the chance to tune again. Here's something simple you can try: When you wake, before reaching for your phone, whisper one thing you're grateful for. It doesn't have to be grand - the smell of coffee, the person sleeping beside you, the light moving through the curtain. That one act rewires your morning. It tells your brain, "Start in peace, not panic." The truth is, attitude isn't something you "set" once - it's something you practice. It's a rehearsal - a chance to remind yourself, This is who I want to be, today. And like any song, it takes repetition to learn it by heart. Some days you'll hit every note. Some days you'll lose the rhythm completely. That's okay. You don't stop the music ... you just keep playing. If you treat your attitude like a performance, you'll always be chasing applause. But if you treat it like a rehearsal, you'll keep growing - quietly, faithfully, joyfully. So tonight, when the day ends, ask yourself three questions: What did I notice? What did I learn? And what am I grateful for? That's all. Those answers are your encore. The ocean doesn't get tired of its rhythm. It never says, "I've done this too many times." It just moves - forward, back, forward, back - and in that motion, it shapes everything it touches. Maybe we can live that way, too. Consistent. Patient. Present. "Happiness isn't something you find. It's something you practice." Each sunrise is another chance to begin again - to rehearse your gratitude, your peace, your kindness, until they become the melody of your life. So tomorrow, when you wake, breathe deep, whisper your thank-you, and begin your daily rehearsal. Because the tide never stops learning how to rise.
